Even though I believe art is completely personal and open to interpretation, I focus on the details in my work to express my intentions. In my piece Exchanging Hearts, I used crochet and embroidered wire to show how two lovers can both drain and heal each other through their connection. The texture of the crochet and the tension in the wire reflect the complicated feelings of love, where it can be both tiring and healing at the same time. Through these materials, I wanted to show how love can deeply affect and change both people involved. The bottom heart being decayed, chaotic, and messy is meant to represent the idea of its love, and energy being drained from the other lover. The above heart is lively, its free, and that is shown through its colors and emphasis of space.
